Dear Friends,

You might have already seen me around the parish or even met me after Mass, but I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself as we get to know each other.

I’m a native of Charlotte, born and raised there. I was a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas in the University City area for most of that time. After high school, I moved to Chapel Hill, where I received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina.

After leaving Carolina, my plan was to go to medical school. I had taken the MCAT and was in the middle of the application and interview process when I realized that a call to the priesthood wasn’t going away. So I decided to give the seminary a try, to see if that was really what God was asking of me.

As it turns out, it seems that it was. I spent two years at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, and four years in Rome at the North American College. I was ordained a priest in 2014, at the same time as Fr. Carter.

After ordination, I spent a year at St. Matthew’s in Charlotte, and then I returned to Rome to complete my licentiate degree in the study of the early Church Fathers. Now I’m here with you at Our Lady of Grace! I consider it a blessing to be here, and I look forward to this time we’ll spend together as we all strive to be good disciples of our Lord.

Yours in Christ, Fr. Paul Buchanan
